A few words on the Snow at Lutsen Mountains

Lutsen has no detail snow data, but we accept the published average of 114 inches snowfall, due to its location on the upwind side of Lake Superior.

Accumulation and Preservation

Lutsen's very cold climate facilitates early season snowmaking, preserves the snow midwinter and it probably gets the least winter rain among Midwest ski areas. Primary exposure is southeast, so melt/freeze conditions will develop in March.
