A few words on the Snow at Boyne Highlands

Boyne Highlands has no detail snow data, but we accept the published average of 140 inches snowfall due to moderate lake effect snow from Lake Michigan. However, terrain is generally too flat for deep powder skiing.

Accumulation and Preservation

Boyne Highlands' cold climate facilitates early season snowmaking. Rain is less frequent than in the Northeast and rarely as intense. The limited acreage can be more easily restored with snowmaking and grooming than at larger and steeper areas in the Northeast. Relatively flat Midwest ski terrain will routinely melt/freeze in warm weather or March sun.
