Accounts for resorts' snow quantity, moisture content, latitude, elevation, and slope aspects.
This score accounts for total snow quantity, its moisture content, the resort's latitude, elevation, and its slope aspects, which affect total snow preservation.
Panorama's snow reputation is low for destination resorts. We accept the resort claim of 188 inches as accurate for the mid and upper mountain. The lower mountain is snowmaking dependent. Snow density is very light. Deep powder skiing is rare but can be very good in the expansive summit terrain and Taynton Bowl.
Accumulation and PreservationPanorama has a cold continental climate, so we expect that all snowmaking runs are well covered by Christmas. Natural snow terrain takes longer to cover so the steeper areas, even up high, are usually sketchy before February. Panorama's peak elevation of 7,800 feet is high for western Canada and the area is nearly 2/3 north facing, so snow preservation is excellent. Panorama is best skied from February through the early April closing.
