Accounts for resorts' snow quantity, moisture content, latitude, elevation, and slope aspects.
This score accounts for total snow quantity, its moisture content, the resort's latitude, elevation, and its slope aspects, which affect total snow preservation.
At Whitefish 13.6% of winter days see 6 inches or more of snow, 12% of winter months see 90 inches or more, and 14% of months see less than 30 inches. This is average snow frequency but above average drought resistance for destination resorts. Whitefish can get occasional rain, but tends to get less than other interior Northwest areas due its slightly higher elevation range of 4.500 - 6,800 feet. Whitefish has an excellent reputation for powder skiing due to expansive terrain, well-spaced trees and skier density about 1/3 that of typical destination resorts.
Accumulation and PreservationWhitefish averages about 80% open at Christmas with about 15% of seasons being less than half open by Christmas. Despite the half south exposure, midwinter snow preservation is very good in the chronically overcast and foggy climate. Widespread melt/freeze conditions are likely in March if it is sunny. January and February are the most reliable months at Whitefish.
